Tis the season, school is getting ready to start, lots of phone calls and emails for Roka Studios to photograph Class of 2011. I am loving all the seniors that I have been photographing this year. They have been all so great to photograph. Sarah’s dad called up and set up everything for our shoot. He even thought it was a great idea to have Sarah’s makeup professionally done. They went through us to book their makeup with the talented Janine. Makeup by Janine is such a in demand busy girl these days and I am so thankful that she was able to fit another senior in for me. Her work is fantastic and I love what she did with Sarah. Girls remember her for next years prom.
After Sarah had her makeup done, we did a studio session in Downtown Denver. Roka Studios is getting lots of love from Lakewood High School. As you can guess from the title, Sarah attends there. I love the shots that I got of Sarah, especially the first one. Sarah’s favorite color is purple so I mixed in a little during the post processing. Check out some of my favorite photos from her session. I will have her music video up soon, so check back for that.

Yesterday I had the chance to photograph Collin’s senior session at The Edge Ice Arena. I always love to do something different and Collin sleeps, breathes, and bleeds hockey. When I met them at the arena I asked them if they had anything in mind. They told me that with all the years of playing hockey they had plenty of cookie cutter professional shots on him on the ice, posed in front of the goal, etc. So I opted for something different and we went into the locker room. I wanted some hard, directional lighting to capture a stronger tone. I used two off camera flashes for most of the shots. One flash behind him and another on a stand to the right of him. I love the dramatic lighting that makes the photos gritty, edgy, and really cool. After the locker room shoot, we headed to a nearby park to finish up. Collin attends Rock Canyon High School and plans on continuing his hockey career in collage.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure to photograph Henry who attends Lakewood High School. Henry is incredibly talented. He plays many musical instruments but have a passion for the banjo. While we we photographing his senior session, I just asked him to play and I would photograph him. I was blown away. I never knew the banjo could sound so great all on it’s own. I found myself watching and listening to him instead of photographing him. Henry has mad skills on the banjo, and I told him that he is so good that I would pay to here him play. Check out his music video of his senior session that we did downtown Denver.

This is the second year doing the Senior Rock Star Tour and I just love that we do it. It was a crazy idea I had several years ago, to give an experience to seniors that nobody has done before. I love all the photographers that have joined and the seniors just love it. If you are don’t know about the tour check out the website. The short summary of it is: Girls get their hair and makeup done, we go out on a 40 passenger limo party bus, we go to five different locations, and you are photographed by 5 different photographers. It’s an all day event, and we have one more this summer on July 27th. There are still some seats left and time to sign up. We only allow 15 seniors for each tour. We have had kids come from as far as Ohio and Durango. Don’t want to use the same photographer as all your friends. Want your photos to be different. Try choosing your senior photos from 5 different photographers.
Here is a sneak peak of the photos that I took. One of each senior that came on the tour. I always knew more girls than guys would come, but this is the 2nd tour we have done where there was only one guy. So guys if you are looking for a good ratio to hang out with a group of girls all day, this is the thing you should do this summer. If you want to see what the other photographers captured.
